INTERVIEW: Between Giants

Hi Tyler, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Amazing, thanks! Really busy, but I like it that way.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Nevermind”?

Sure. Nevermind is a piano driven indie-pop track featuring the exceptionally talented band “Kalimur”. Thematically it dives into the concept of not being able to express what one is feeling and thus pushing people away.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

This track is actually based off a real life conversation almost verbatim – a conversation with a girl in which I needed to open up and be more vulnerable with her to get her to stay, but I couldn’t do it.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I would love to do a video for this track. Just depends how the response is!

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing was hard. It is difficult to open up about your own personal problems with opening up, so lyrically this pushed me. The recording was great, collaborating with Brett, the lead vocalist and songwriter for “Kalimur” was fantastic. I love being able to bounce ideas off of other people.

With the success from your previous work – does that put any pressure on while working in a new material?

Definitely. You never want to be going backwards.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

Absolutely! It is an entirely different process. You’re always running ideas through the filter of another artists perspective and tastes, so it always pushes you to be better.

How’s your new album coming along?

Great. Just tracked some vocals this past weekend and it is almost all set to get into post-production.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Yes to both – it will be entitled “Jupiter”, an homage to a city here in Florida that I lived in briefly as a child. Hoping to get it out in August, just not sure what portion of the month yet.

Any plans to hit the road?

Of course. I live for the live show, and last falls tour was a blast. I’d love to put something together in the fall, but it could have to wait until Spring.

What else is happening next in Between Giants’ world?

The record, traveling, and more writing! This is just the beginning for this project. Also there is this taco place I really have been wanting to try.
