Tella Viv are a Swedish Art Rock quartet made up of members Carl Hjelm (Vocals), Benjamin Lavén (Guitar), Marcus Lindblom (Bass) and Fredric Lindblom (Drums). Already established on the Swedish indie scene, they are now releasing their third EP to date, called ‘Happy Doomsday’, the result of a year spent in the studio recording new music. Packed with surf, 50s pastiches and new wave-clinging synthesizers, their songs link the Cold War era’s fear of atom bombs with more profound themes such as attachment issues and separation.

The band says: “Happy Doomsday is our initial step towards a new sound and style that is further explored in the upcoming debut album. We clash New Wave-idols from the 80s with surf-pastiches of the 50s and place them in a post-Trumpian context. Happy Doomsday is made to reflect the impending doom coupled with enough lethargy to go on partying instead of seeking shelter.”

Lead track ‘No, No, No, No’ is the perfect representation of the EP as a whole: bold guitars, intricate melodies and that unique vibe peculiar to the Scandinavian indie scene sound, which gives the listener reminiscences of the likes of the Strokes, the Vaccines and Vampire Weekend. Listen here

“It’s a song for dancing and crying at the same time. The lyrics thematise lost affection in a closed capsule. Inspired by comic book couple “Valérian and Laureline”, the song protagonists are two lovers traveling through space and time together. What happens when they lose the spark?”

The international scene first had a glimpse of Tella Viv through their suggestive music videos being endorsed by Vice Noisey and Vogue US. Singer and frontman Carl Hjelm left his mark outside the music scene when becoming a well-recognised fashion model in worldwide runways and campaigns. The band is now rebooted with core member Benjamin Lavén on guitar and brothers Marcus & Fredric Lindblom known from the band Last Lynx.

Watch out for this band because there is a lot more to come in the future for them.
