INTERVIEW: Whitney Fenimore

Hi Whitney, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi! Thank you! Been really good!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Find Your Love”?

Find Your Love was written a few months ago in my home studio in Phoenix. I was messing around with the electric and kina came up with this ambient sounding chorus. I wrote it in a couple days and knew that it would be the first single from the EP.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

The song is about a lot of things really but mostly about fighting for love in the midst of pain or struggle.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

The single comes off your new album Battle Within – what’s the story behind the title?

Battle Within is also a title of a song on the record. I wrote that song a few years back actually about a break up. My heart was crushed and I just honestly wanted to run as far away as I could from my town. The hurt was real.

How was the recording and writing process?

Loved the recording process! I got the opportunity to work with my friend John Coggins out in LA. We recorded everything in about a week! John is incredible and actually helped co-write a couple of the tracks.

How did your time back on The Voice help you grow as an artist and understanding the industry?

It helped me to hone in to who I was and to trust that I can stay in my lane. That there is room for artists like me.

Having a rocker coaching you – how did that influence on your Country roots?

I think it’s all about feeling the music you’re singing, making people believe what you’re saying. Adam is pretty damn good at that, country or not. So he really helped me develop as a performer and singer.

What role does Phoenix play in your music?

It gives me space to write. I’m focused there. I get really distracted any where else ha!

What battles did you get to fight and explore while on production of this record?

Each song kina takes you somewhere different sonically yet still ties together nicely. That was a struggle at first, like how are we gonna get all these songs to sound cohesive, but I think in the end we did a good job!

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely! Dates to come soon!

What else is happening next in Whitney Fenimore’s world?

Lots of shows!! Keep following along via social media to see what I’m up to next!
