Cage The Elephant’s Matt Shultz To Curate Bonnaroo’s “Happy Rooday!” Celebration

Cage The Elephant’s Matt Shultz, a veteran of Bonnaroo as both performer and fan, will curate Bonnaroo’s Plaza 9 for the first ever “HAPPY ROODAY!” celebration. Shultz will serve as Creative Director for “HAPPY ROODAY!” which will be equal parts interactive art installation, artist showcase, recharging oasis, and perpetual party. Said Shultz about his involvement: “I’m really grateful for this opportunity and look forward to collaborating with some of the amazing talent at this year’s festival at the Farm. This activation is meant to reflect positivity and encourage people to begin anew.”

“HAPPY ROODAY!” is a celebration of life’s most vital process: regeneration. Bringing his vision to life is Daniel Oakley as Producer (C.E.O., BTFL) alongside Nashville artists Sinclair Tucker and Emily Davis. The interior of the immersive installation is a stark contrast to the surrounding landscape – swaths of glittering mylar adorn almost every surface, oversized and distorted party decor creates an otherworldly spectacle and the theme of repetition, rebirth, and reflection is cohesive throughout. From the expansive mylar chandeliers to the giant birthday cake the space invites you to “Forget what you know of your future and past, join the party and dance. “Programing for the festival long event will include “Saturday” Morning Cartoons, The Glitch Mob Late Night DJ Set, Watercolor Portraits With Lissie, Karaoke Dokey With Okey Dokey, and more. In addition to his “HAPPY ROODAY!” installation, Shultz, along with Cage The Elephant’s lead guitarist, Nick Bockrath, will participate in this year’s Bonnaroo SuperJam “Into The Great Wide Open” which will celebrate the life and music of Tom Petty. This late night Friday show will be full of special guests and led by musical directors Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket and Craig Pfunder of VHS or Beta.
