SAVEUS is hard to classify — at least in any temporal sense

Featuring crooning vocals, stellar multi-layered production and high-impact lyricism, the Danish producer, songwriter and vocalist’s songs can only be described as sci-fi gospel meets the digital soul. They’re mind bending and genre melding, incorporating apocalyptic gaming imagery and entirely new soundscapes. But they’re undoubtedly classic as well with calls to 70s blues and neo-soul.

The debut album, ‘NEURO’, comes from a place of introspection and self-assurance. It’s an ambitious and experimental album — all written and produced by 25-year-old Martin Hedegaard. Listen here

“I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the right place for me, in terms of genre,” says Martin, the voice and mind behind SAVEUS. “I love music from the 70s but I didn’t want to make retro music; it had to be something you could hear in the future. I wanted to do something new.” And he has certainly succeeded, seamlessly combining gospel and alternative rock, soul and experimental electronica, to create something unique and timeless. It’s a fresh take on alternative, as if Aretha Franklin’s vocals, Jack White’s heavy riffs and Fatboy Slim’s production could be coalesced.

Martin grew up in a tiny town in rural Denmark, where he learned to play piano in school. At 14, he auditioned for the first season of the Danish X Factor, not knowing what to expect—and ended up winning the show. He became an instant star; filling large venues and watching his releases go triple platinum. “I learned a lot from that experience, but I was only 15 when I won,” he recalls, adding that he quickly realized something was wrong: “I started to grow up and see something was missing in the music: me, and my integrity.” Martin “pulled the plug” on his career and retreated back to his small town. “You have to put yourself into an album—what you stand for, what you want to say to people—and I was only starting to find out who I was.” He bought production equipment and spent years seriously studying music, as well as himself. After honing his production skills and writing for other artists in Copenhagen, Martin’s music started to really speak for itself, rather than for his past and almost 10 years later the SAVEUS project was born.

Since the release of the debut single, ‘Levitate Me’, in 2015, SAVEUS has become a critically acclaimed act both on record and live, selling out every single ticket on the Spring tour of 2018. This Summer SAVEUS will open the legendary Orange Stage at Roskilde Festival in front of 50.000 people.

“I want my music to say something,” Martin asserts, “I want it to be about what we are going through as humans, the challenges we face and personal challenges as well—loss and love.” The music of SAVEUS tells meaningful and timeless stories while bringing people together. “I think music should change the world,” he says. “And that’s why I make it.”
