Hi folks, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Heyyy VENTS great to be back! We’re great thanks, sunbathing in this delicious sunshine getting excited for Summer funnnn!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Better”?

Of course, we are so happy to get this one out there as we’ve sitting on it for a while. It’s a celebratory track – we’re trying to tell someone that they are better than the things they have done or how they are feeling, that those things don’t define them. We want to share how we see them- so much better than they see themselves. The song’s meaning is universal in that, we all could do with a cheerleader at times, couldn’t we?

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

We all have people we love who at times don’t see their true beauty or worth. This song was born out of a personal relationship in which we wanted to let them know how great they really are.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, there will be a video for this soon! Watch this space but in the meantime check out the vid for ‘Easy’ on youtube.

The single comes off your new album Unholy Ceremony – what’s the story behind the title?

Unholy Ceremony to us means the dark places people go to, or the things they do in times of trouble. People are reluctant to speak to someone about the things that are rarely spoken about and these words connote something against the grain, weird and a subversion of the norm. This ep is personal and intense in its lyrics and subject matter. The whole thing is a conversation with a friend in pain and the process of helping them out of a dark place.

How was the recording and writing process?

Fun, creative, long and frustrating at times! Each song begins either as a lonely beat or a very stripped back piano song, we then slowly build them up and go back and forward, take things out, add them back in until we’re all happy! It’s been different for us creating a body of work with a running theme for the first time.

What role does UK play in your writing?

UK is our home and we are constantly inspired by everyday events in our lives here. To be a new band in London especially is exciting, we are so lucky to be surrounded by so much art, music and vibrancy in our daily lives. People watching here is so amazing and trying to piece together people’s stories gives us inspiration for our own storytelling when writing.

What aspect of our social and entertainment climate did you get to explore on this record?

The EP touches on the existential crisis a lot of people our age are feeling at the moment, and the effect that has on our mentality- we have to look after each other! But also in ‘Better’, we hope we can spread the message to others to tell those close to them how amazing they are, to talk more and to be fully present. A favourite saying, and one that shapes this EP is, ‘be kind, everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about’.

Any plans to hit the road?

Always, I think we are happiest when we’re travelling. We are playing a gig for FluxFM in Berlin on June 13 th and then we are starting to organise a small UK tour to promote the EP- so watch this space!

What else is happening next in Kid Cupid’s world?

More writing and lots of gigging! See you out there x
