INTERVIEW: Fitzsimon and Brogan

How would you classify your music?

Fitzsimon and Brogan: I suppose you would say it’s guitar-driven pop/rock, but we try to not be pigeon-holed into one category. Like the Beatles, we try to write in different styles.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

The Beatles, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Jimmy Webb, Prince.

What do you want fans to take from your music?

Any type of emotion, as long as they feel something.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

London has such a thriving music scene. You can see a gig every night of the week if you wanted to, in any genre.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Elvis Costello and Prince. I wish we’d been born earlier so that we could have seen The Beatles.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

Big Blue World is one of our favourites. The first time we played it live, we got a brilliant reaction to it. We tried to write an anthemic song and we’d like to think we’ve succeeded.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

Over the last year, we’ve been writing for other people as well as ourselves. It’s challenging but rewarding to adapt to other people’s styles.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

No contest! The Beatles – especially John Lennon, who we idolize.

What’s next for you?

We’ve got two albums coming out this year released by WTPL. The first is, ‘Big Blue World’ which will be out in June – to be followed by, ‘The Girl Who Shouted Love At The Heart Of The World’, in the fall. We’re also half way through another project which will be released next year.
