Emay Holmes has been busy since the release of his debut single, “The Deployment Song”, with its video that caught the hearts of service members and civilians alike, gaining over 7.5k Facebook shares. A deployment aboard USS Nimitz took Emay across the globe and away from the studio for a large part of the following months. He’s now back on firm land and excited to release his debut EP, Deep Down, on June 1.
Emay’s lyrics often deal with the feelings of isolation and longing that factor into the challenging emotional toll of his career. Body’s On The Ocean takes a dive into that same territory. The song is a raw blend of intimate acoustic guitar and the serviceman’s soulful twang. Emay sings of reassurance, telling his love they will prevail with tender phrases like “when my time comes to a closing just give me my baby’s hand.” The track’s minimalist instrumentation and echoing guitar sounds combine beautifully with the Houston native’s rich tenor.
