Hi guys, welcome back to VENTS! How have you been?
Thanks for the question! Being a musician is always an interesting ride, with thousands of ups and downs. But it is all about the journey, as we used to say. VENTS magazine was our first international press appearance, so you have a pretty nice place in our hearts.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Speed of Light”?
Speed of Light is our first single from our upcoming EP. We wanted to release a song that is energetic and full of energy. I love to write songs where a message is positive but a melody sounds a little bit melancholic for the first time you listen to it. I think this song is a great introduction to our new era, for the new EP and then for the full length debut album. The lyrics of Speed of Light are symbolizing everything we want to achieve with our music. We really want to fly at the speed of light, even if it seems impossible.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
No. There were series of events that inspired this song. Life can be pretty hectic sometimes. This song is like a compass for me. It shows the way how to think and how to live, helps me to realize what is really important. When I need guidance, all I have to do is to remember that nothing is impossible. We have to dream and fight for the light we are waiting for to shine through our lives.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
We wanted to show someone in the video who is facing with hard situations every day. Our friend, Barnabas Tanka is symbolizing it very well. I love the fact that he is so brave! There are people in same situations that are afraid to show their bodies and moves. We also wanted to place the band in a space inspired situation, trying to separate ourselves from reality. That’s why we appear as silhouettes in the music video. The complete production of this video is made by my bandmate John Gero and his brother Zoltan.
How was the recording and writing process?
In my case writing, recording and producing always happens at the same time. I always start the production of a new song with a demo. When everything is clean I start to work on the final version of the song. In this case I started the production with drums, layering natural drum sound with electronic samples in my home studio. All the keys – pads, strings, loops – are the same ones from the demo. We went to one of our friend’s professional studio to record the final bass and guitar tracks. We also recorded the main vocals there. In my home studio I recorded some additional guitar tracks and different background vocals for the song. As a producer on this song I made a rough mix for the mixing engineer to give him an idea that what we really want to achieve with the song.
What struggles were you trying to overcome as you were writing this song?
I needed hope. That’s what humans really need. The lyrics of the chorus “I wanna fly at the speed of light” were echoing in my brain for weeks. That simple sentence was the spark that lighted the fire inside of me to write this song.
How’s your new EP coming along?
All the recordings are finished. We are in the phase of doing some additional production on the songs. I need to clear my schedule to prepare the rough mixes for our mixing engineer. It is a pretty great feeling that almost everything is done now.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We will probably release the EP early summer this year. We have some different ideas for the title but none of them is a name of a specific song from the EP. I am searching for a title that is going to represent the 4 song as a whole.
Any plans to hit the road?
Last October we had a little tour here in Europe, we want to do the same this year. We are always searching for great touring opportunities and we work crazy lot on our live show as well.
What else is happening next in Benjamin Gabe’s world?
After the EP and the European tour the next big think in our life is going to be to finish and release our debut album. Can’t wait to share it with you!
