KT TUNSTALL AND MIKE MCCREADY OF PEARL JAM Release Cover Of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” And Accompanying Video

Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award-winning KT Tunstall has released a cover of Tom Petty’s hit single I Won’t Back Down.” Mike McCready, lead guitarist from legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Pearl Jam performs guitar alongside KT.

In the new single, produced by McCready, KT takes center stage, showcasing her voice’s blues tones as she powers through the classic melody, as well as taking up acoustic guitar, bass, keyboard and percussion duties. McCready joins on backing vocals and guitar then enters with a rippling guitar solo as the song climaxes. Performing on drums is Leah Julius from Thunderpussy. Fans were invited to take part in a collaborative music video for the song where they sent in footage from marches and gatherings they have attended for positive causes. This footage has been incorporated into a video to demonstrate the power people have to change the world.  You can view the video here.

KT and Mike chose to cover this song to honor Tom Petty, but also as a shout of support to all the people across the globe standing up for justice and equality, and demanding a better world. 

The single arrives in time for summer as KT tours worldwide with superb artists including Barenaked LadiesThe Pretenders, Simple Minds and Gary Barlow.

KT Tunstall emerged in 2004 with ‘Eye To The Telescope’. She has released four critically acclaimed albums since and her songs have been used everywhere from the opening credits of The Devil Wears Prada to Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign theme. Her last album ’KIN’, released in 2016, received rave reviews and debuted at No.7 on the official UK Album Charts. Pearl Jam formed in 1990 and have since released 10 studio albums, 36 singles and sold an estimated 60 million albums worldwide.

Recently KT has been awarded the Inspirational Artist gong at the Women In Music Awards. She was also chosen as the first ever female Grand Marshal (following the likes of Sir Sean Connery) to lead April’s annual New York Tartan Week parade. She is currently putting the finishing touches to her 6th studio album, due for release later this year.
