INTERVIEW: Nick Martin

Hi Nick, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thank you. Things are great and now that my new EP Cool Love has been released things look even greater.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Cool Love”?

Cool Love is a song written by a few talented Nashville based writers some of which have produced big hits in the past and which I really wanted to produce from the first moment i have heard it. I started working on it last September and within a week a finished it.. Well it thought I did! haha. I think the version that got released was version 14.5 FINAL FINAL! Producers around will know what I mean by that. I am super happy about the final product and I feel this is my best work yet. Lets see where it takes me next.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

As I said, the song was written by a bunch of us and I would say it was just a nice moment between friends discussing todays relationships but nothing too personal to be honest.

Any plans to release a music video for the single?

Of course. This song deserves a music video. Cool Love story coming your way in a few weeks.

The single comes off your new album Cool Love – what’s the story behind the title?

Its about being committed but at the same time allowing the other person some space to experience life. Love and other stuff..

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing process was awesome but being mostly a producer I really enjoyed producing this record. As I said above, it took me more than a while to get to the end product. Sometimes with these records you think you will make something simple but simple doesn’t mean easy. I spent a lot of time figuring out the right vibe that mostly came from the guitar in the beginning of the song flowing in to the great chorus by Carly Paige. I think its perfect now.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are remixing someone else rather than in your own?

It depends on the song really. I have done remixes in a pop/urban structure like “Falling” for Alesso and I have done lots in a four to the floor house structure like “I Believe I M Fine” for Robin Schulz. Totally depends on the song to be remixed.

What aspect of love did you get to explore on this record?

Open love with out boundaries and cliches..

Any plans to hit the road?

I am Greek so summer is in Greece and Europe. Have shows between Greece and Ibiza. Cant get better than that!

What else is happening next in Nick Martin’s world?

The best thing happening right now is that I have so many new songs finished that the excitement level is at an all time high. I need to focus and figure out what, when, how. Till then enjoy Cool Love. Peace -Nick
