SINGLE REVIEW: R U Freaky by Popz
Funk music is back, and Popz “The Triple OG” is the talented artists bringing it to you. For those of you unaware of the term, Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid 1960’s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable, new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz and rhythm and blues (R&B). Popz is the newly heralded King of Funk, creating a complex groove with richly colored extended chords.
Popz can easily fit into the musical landscape of the greatest artists in the genre, including Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, and The Meters. “R U Freaky” is incredibly well produced with great vocals and an incredible groove. With strong guitar riffs and bass lines, “R U Freaky” will have you singing along on the second play…..and this song is worthy of numerous plays, put it on repeat and get your groove on.
Popz is a music industry veteran, based out of Merced, California. He is a pioneer in the music industry, a mature and distinguished artist who is also a mature and distinguished seventy three years old. Amazing. He has mad songwriting skills, an incredibly sultry tenor and an amazing falsetto that really attracts and draws the listener in. At the ripe age of seventy three, Popz is dropping his version of Funk Swag in his new single “R U Freaky,” and the lyrics and sound go hand in hand. The single is extremely funky, fusion-filled R&B with melodies that remind you of the funk music of the 70’s with an updated vibe. Totally reminiscent of the music you would listen to when you were going out to have a great time partying back in the heyday of the 70’s.
Popz “R U Freaky” taps into a theme of excitement and fun giving the song a familiar sound to funk lovers while enveloping the listener in rich, warm harmonies. It is relaxing, comfy and takes you back to what I consider to be a much better time in the history of the world, and definitely in the world of music. Unfortunately for music aficionados, Popz sound has long been forgotten in the modern music world, and fortunately for music aficionados Popz is bringing it back with his new Funk jam “R U Freaky.”
Before moving to California, Popz was honing his craft in Columbus, Ohio, where he was heavily involved in the music industry, playing, promoting and managing various local bands. His sister, June Carey, was the originator of the Crowd Pleasers, and Popz was their lead singer throughout his music career. The Crowd Pleasers had a Billboard hit single with the song “Freaky People” that hit number eighty eight on the charts at the time. The band featured famous music artists such as Kenny (Babyface) Edmunds who is a multi-platinum recording superstar.
I highly recommend “R U Freaky” by Popz as a definite you don’t want to miss it single. Get your copy today!
