Fresh off the release of “Thrills,” Donna Missal returns with a new two-track single,“Driving.” The official video for “Driving” premiered today on Billboard.com and can be viewed HERE. It was directed by Justin Bettman, who has earned acclaim for the ongoing art project Set in the Street, which repurposes found materials to create interior sets on city streets. The sets provide a backdrop for Bettman’s photographs and those posted by passing pedestrians, resulting in a final work that examines the complex ideas of perspective and perception – themes that are also explored in “Driving.”
Justin Bettman says, “It was awesome working Donna on this project. She was super collaborative and brought some great ideas. We both wanted the music video to feel like a short film with her song as the background as opposed to a traditional performance music video. The film is about empowerment and breaking out of the box that we often create for ourselves.”
Fans can see “Driving” from a different perspective in the video that Missal shared yesterday on Facebook. In “Driving (Live from Capitol Studios),” she performs the song live, accompanied simply by her Omnichord and Isaac Boliver on guitar and keyboards. Similarly, the single’s A-side is a studio version while the B-side is a stripped-down live take.
Missal will be supporting K.Flay this weekend at sold-out shows at Denver’s Summit Music Hall (May 5) and Complex in Salt Lake City (May 6). Hailed by Milk as an “earth-shaking vocalist with unique resonance,” the New Jersey native topped the Spotify Viral and HypeMachine charts with her debut single, “Keep Lying.” “Sick,” her second single, was praised by The FADER as “a smoky come-hither track worthy of your hottest advances.” Shewill release her full-length debut later this year on Harvest Records.
