Hi Neumagz, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

HEY! I have been great. Just busy with high school!  Track and field season just ended and AP tests and finals are coming up.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “I Am The Sahara”?

i am so excited to release I Am The Sahara as my first single.  Every artist looks forward to their first release and I think this is a great one to start with. I love its groove and overall feeling. We have been excited about it from the minute the writing session and work tape were finished.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I am the Sahara was inspired partially by an encounter with a friend of mine where I realized that even though he might not have been perfect, he was everything I needed at that time

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

The filming process was surprisingly short and fun; I just danced and sang along with my song about a billion times and got to interact with some amazing people on set.

How was the recording and writing process?

I really enjoyed the writing process.  I wrote the song with Maggie (Margaret) Becker and Tom Michael, and we worked together so well! I had previously written songs with them each separately, but not together. They have fantastic personalities and our ideas blend together very well. Tom Michael is also the producer of I Am The Sahara.  Tom really gets my vision and he is super chill and easy to work with.  I had a fantastic time recording with him.

What role does Austin play in your music?

I would say Austin plays a major role in my career and identity. I didn’t really find my music taste until I moved here almost 8 years ago, and I now enjoy going to weekly concerts and gigs to explore/expand my music.  Austin is so music-oriented and it is easy to find great shows to see even as part of the under-21 crowd.  Also, I started as the lead singer of a rock band when I was only 12 through a music school in Austin called Band-Aid.  Austin is just the best for young aspiring musicians.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along? Any tentative release date or title in mind?

New material IS COMING!  I am releasing a five song EP (which includes I Am The Sahara) hopefully towards the end of May and I have not yet titled it. I am already writing and thinking of new songs.  I already cannot wait for the next project.

Any plans to hit the road?

If all of this takes off, touring would be AMAZING and is definitely my goal, but I know that to get there I need continue to work my a** off every day. For now, I am trying to finish my sophomore year in high school, widen my friend/fan base, deepen my understanding of music, and solidify my style.  I am looking forward to summer when I plan to really hit the writing hard.

What else is happening next in Neumagz’s world?

I really enjoy running and I continue my work with the Austin Jazz Club.  We learn and perform jazz standards—-jazz has been a large and important part of my music education.  I also still perform around Austin in a rock band as lead singer —— it has been an unbeatable experience for the past three years for gaining music industry performance, writing, recording and interpersonal skills.
