PREMIERE: Jasmine Singh takes a “Journey To The Sun”

Indian-Canadian artist Jasmine Singh is ready to be introduced to the world with her new single “Journey To The Sun” and here on VENTS we are proud to be the platform to help on this quest.

“Journey to the Sun” is a revelatory milestone for a musical career that began years ago. Produced by urban and electronic duo Ari Rhodes and Damien Heck, “Journey to the Sun” is a cinematic soundscape, with a nostalgic visit to the 90’s R&B era that conveys an inspirational message of taking chances and being fearless. The release of “Journey To The Sun” and the upcoming music video will introduce a new artistic direction for Jasmine that has been long awaited.

In addition, Jasmine will be celebrating the release on April 28th at the popular Denizen Hall in Edmonton. Also, also, we had a chance to talk to her about the new single and what else is in stores on the new future.

Hi Jasmine, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I am doing great! Thank you for the interview.

Can you talk to us more about your new EP “Journey to the Sun”?

This EP is my first ever original album that I have created. It will included 5 tracks that each carry  different emotion and sound. I worked with Canadian producers, Ari Rhodes (Nuela Charles, Kayla Diamond) and Damien Heck on the entire project. They are super talented and out of the box producers to work with.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this project?

The first song I wrote was “Journey to the Sun” and it was inspired by this feeling of fear and lack of motivation of doing anything because I failed in the past. I was weighing myself down at the time. This song came out like an uplifting anthem I wrote for myself to get through that dark time and I hope that it resonates with listeners who feel that way. The concept of the journey to the sun, is an analogy for getting one step closer to your goals regardless of what may have happened in the past or the fear of failure. The sun is that place you get to when you feel content/happy with who and where you are in your life. I thought it was fitting as this is my first ever EP, and in a way it is part of my own journey.

Any plans to release a video for any of the songs?

Definitely working with some creative individuals on making visuals for the songs off the EP. I have already released one music video for the song, “Blanket”.

How was the recording and writing process?

Each song had its own process. A couple of them were pretty much fully written but it took more time trying to achieve the sound that we wanted. There were a couple where we created the track and instrumental first to vibe off of and then wrote over that.

How did your upbringing influence your music?

I’ve been exposed to so many different types of music as a kid and when it comes to songwriting, I try not to create this staple sound and instead let the songs form themselves. I also don’t like to focus on the “trending” music. I would rather create tracks that were timeless. “Journey to the Sun” has this 90’s r&b/pop vibe that I think was influenced by my early love of TLC, Alicia Keys and Destiny’s Child. That music was so soulful and always put me in a good mood. One of the songs on the EP called “Carousel” carries sounds that are influenced by world music. Growing up in an Indian household, Indian music was played a lot around the house. I love listening to music from different cultures such has my own, as well as Middle Eastern and Latin music.

Does this mean we can expect more new material from you – how’s that coming along?

Currently, I have a couple of songs drafted out and put in my personal “song bank”, so when I’m ready to put out more music, I will look into that collection and see what I can create! I am also writing with other artists/producers because it’s always great for learning and developing your skills as a writer.

If so, any tentative release date or title in mind for the next project?

My EP “Journey to the Sun” will be dropping on May 18th, 2018. I have some collaborations on the works, but no confirmed release dates confirmed at the moment.

Any plans for upcoming shows?

I am playing a few shows in my hometown and in Alberta. My goal is to play as many shows as possible, especially during the summer. I will post all new shows and dates on my social media, so follow me!

What else is happening next in Jasmine Singh’s world?

Playing as many shows as I can. I am looking forward to networking and hunting down opportunities to travel and collaborating with more creative minds and begin new projects.
