Q: Hi Alexis, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
A: Hey, I’ve been great thanks! Busy working on the release of “Promises” and the new EP!
Q: Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Promises”?
A: Promises” is anthemic and empowering with a redeeming, badass vibe. It’s a Pop/R&B track that draws from modern Pop and Hip-Hop sounds in the instrumental.
Q: Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?
A: I was visiting Nashville last September and I had a co-write where we had started talking about our experiences with people who make a lot of promises they can’t keep. We each had an experience with someone who would lie, or never follow through with what they’d say, and we knew almost everyone would have a similar experience to relate to, whether it was with a friend or in a relationship. We wanted to tell the story in a way where even though we had been done wrong, we weren’t the victims anymore. We took the standpoint of taking the power back from someone who had hurt you and in a couple hours, “Promises” was written!
Q: Any plans to release a video for the single?
A: Yes! The official lyric video will be released May 7th.
Q: How was the recording and writing process?
A: It was amazing! The writing process was so smooth and the recording process was a really cool new experience. I was a little nervous going into the studio to record, as this was the first time I was recording for official release, but I had an amazing team surrounding me that helped calm my nerves pretty quick.
Q: What role does Vancouver and Toronto play in your writing?
A: Toronto is probably one of my favourite places to write because I love the vibes of the city and a bunch of my favourite co-writers live there as well! Vancouver is home though. I think some really personal songs tend to come out when I’m writing at home.
Q: Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
A: Yes! I’m currently working on an EP! It’s coming together really, really well and I’m super excited to record it and for you all to hear it in the near future.
Q: Any tentative release date or title in mind?
A: Hopefully later this year! Stay tuned on my website and socials, to stay up-to-date! J
Q: Any plans to hit the road?
A: I’m always playing in Vancouver and hope to set up some shows on the road soon!
Q: What else is happening next in Alexis Lynn’s world?
A: While I’m working on the EP, I’ll definitely continue to write and play shows locally, and hopefully get out to Toronto and some other places to play as well!
