While Restless Modern made his debut with production work on “Navigator,” a pop single that has been streamed over 8 million times since its 2017 release, the young artist didn’t put out his first self-produced, self-written, and self-performed work until late that year. “I’m Okay” was the first single off of his To Come Undone EP, a dark and introspective body of work that has accumulated over 750,000 streams since its independent release in February of 2018.
“It’s always been my goal to handle every part of the music myself. When I’m making the productions, writing the lyrics, and singing the songs, I can get as close to my vision as possible.” Restless Modern, aka Jack Kieffer, cites artists like EDEN, The 1975, and Blackbear as key influences, though he is cautious to describe himself in terms of others. “Every single day is about improvement and differentiation. I listen to and study the art that I love, but my job is to create something that no other artist can create. Something that is unique to my perspective and my abilities – so that’s what I’m shooting for.”
Set to graduate from Harvard University in May of this year, Jack has big plans for the future: “focusing full-time on Restless Modern in NYC after graduation is going to raise the stakes higher than they’ve ever been before. I have no option other than to make this music thing work – so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.” Doubt, his next single, will be releasing on April 20th (his 22nd birthday).
