SPOTLIGHT: Giulia Millanta Releases New Single “Blinded By The Sun”

Giulia Millanta has returned today with the release of her new single “Blinded By The Sun” off her upcoming all star album Conversation with a Ghost.

Singer-songwriter, Giulia (Julia) Millanta, is a native Italian from Florence who now calls Austin, Texas home. A prolific artist, she has released seven solo albums and regularly tours throughout the USA and internationally. An accomplished guitarist, Giulia also plays ukulele and sings in four languages.

Giulia has been called smart, pensive and cool and credited with psychedelic grooveability whilst “baring her clairvoyant soul” to “deliver musical mojo.”  Her music is a rock-Americana cocktail with a European twist. Feisty, humorous, raw, yet introspective. The renowned journalist Dave Marsh said that “The best and scariest thing about Giulia Millanta is not just that she is truly a tightrope walker herself but that she continually pulls YOU out there with her… with melodies, singing, stories, imagery. No matter what language her lyrics may be in… and I’ve lost count of how many her lyrics use here… she’s always understandable because her music is, like any fine art, universally recognizable. I can’t wait for her next one!” And The Aquarium Weekly found her “deeply evocative with a dash of Piaf, a sprinkle of Lady Day, a pinch of Norah Jones and a teaspoon of Madeleine Peyroux.”

The journey began at age eight taught her how to play guitar. Curiosity and a longing for personal expression led her to record her debut album “Giulia and the Dizziness” In the spring of 2010 she performed at the Acoustic Guitar Meeting in Sarzana and earned the “New Sounds of Acoustic Music” award. This led to an endorsement by the renowned guitar makers Eko, choice of the most famous 60’s-80’s era singer-songwriters throughout Italy.2011 found her back in the studio recording “Dropping Down.” This album showcased her maturing skills as musician, producer, writer and arranger.

Deciding to expand upon her musical borders she moved to Austin, TX in 2012 where she was embraced by the music community. Giulia, by way of her unique bilingual abilities and intrepid nature honed a style that transcended cultural boundaries and spoke strongly yet gently of universal life through her autobiographical musings. Her new energy and inspiration, led to the release of “Dust and Desire.”.) The Funambulist (2014) followed by her fifth solo album “Moonbeam Parade” (2016.) Produced by Giulia and George Reiff, these 13 poignant songs fueled a new direction/ Backed by a stellar band featuring Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan), Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Glenn Fukunaga (The Dixie Chicks), Michael Fracasso, Kimmie Rhodes, Gabriel Rhodes (Willie Nelson), Dony Wynn and David Pulkingham (Patty Griffin).

In her new record, “Conversation with a Ghost” Giulia questions her ghosts and takes notes on what they have to say to her. She invites us to her séance, where we explore unconscious realms and meet the familiar spirits of loss; loss of innocence, sanity, perspective and love.

Produced by Giulia with guitarist Gabriel Rhodes (Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver), this new release was recorded live with some of Austin’s finest who have since become her band. They are bassist Glenn Fukunaga (Dixie Chicks) and drummer Dony Wynn (Robert Palmer.) The record also features the talents of electric guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits), Joel Guzman (Paul Simon) on accordion, on horns John Mills (Aretha Franklin, David Byrne) and  guitarist David Pulkingham (Patty Griffin) and Kimmie Rhodes on background vocals,

Conversation With A Ghost will be released on June 22, 2018.
