INTERVIEW: Maiya

Hi Maiya, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m doing great! Working really hard but having a great time experiencing my junior year and especially with the great opportunities I’ve had with my music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “No Stopping Me Now”?

No Stopping Me Now is a pop song but it’s got a whole different vibe than my first single, Sidelines.   While Sidelines is fun, catchy, and a great song to dance to, No Stopping Me Now has a deeper meaning, its more laid back, a song you can just kick back to. I am very excited for the release of No Stopping Me Now and I can’t wait for all of my fans to hear it.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

You know, there is a lot going on in the world and I think that we could all use a good song to help us remember that we can overcome anything. That no matter how bad things are, we can get through it. So, I thought that I would write a song that reminds people of the good times. No Stopping Me Now is that song. It reminds us that there were good times in the past and there will be good times ahead.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I’d love to to a video. I don’t have set plans yet but we’ll see what the summer brings.

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing was fun it’s always great when you can find the right words to match up to a great melody that conveys the emotion and meaning. The recording process was absolutely amazing! It was rather time consuming, but i enjoyed every second of it. We had to record each verse, pre chorus, and chorus around ten to twenty times each. We spent about twelve hours there the first day but to me it only seemed like two. I told my mom that I could live in the studio, I loved it so much.

With the success from your previous single – were you any nervous while working on this new track?

I worked on both songs at about the same time, so I didn’t really know at that time how my first single, Sidelines would do. I am a little nervous how this song will be received because it is pretty different, but I love it so I hope my fans will love it too.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I’ve got some songs that I am working on. I plan to finish some of these songs and hopefully get into the studio to record.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Not yet. I gotta finish the writing and of course, as an Independent artist, work on the funding to be able to get back in the studio.

Any plans to hit the road?

At some point I would like to go on the road but I want to get more original material released first. However, I am working on some local shows in the Albuquerque area with the possibility of doing a show or two out of town.

What else is happening next in Maiya’s world?

I’m just trying to enjoy my Junior year as much as I can. I am working on taking college entrance exams, applying for scholarships and looking at colleges. I also hope to get back to Taekwondo after taking a few months off, and start sparring again.
