The electrifying first single from musical collective Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite, “Electrified”, is the first offering from a collaboration between popular musicians and producers Dee and the Grand Brothers from their soon to hit debut release Canyon Diablo. Both sides of this act are no strangers to musical success and Dee, in particular, has experienced considerable fortune with a song featured in a Ford Super Bowl ad and two full length solo releases. The second of those releases, Day by Day, boasted production chores handled by the Grand Brothers and the chemistry experienced between Dee and the brothers inspired them to embark on this project. The results are stunning. “Electrified” is a winner from the first and comes with a gripping, professionally filmed video and kicks off the build up for the upcoming album with memorable style and visual punch. Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite is poised to make an enormous impact with this studio release.
The Grand Brothers deserves major props for the big league production they’ve invested around this song, but it’s free of the empty bells and whistles so many of their contemporaries and peers throw into a song in lieu of compositional excellence or actually having something worthwhile to say. Granted, there’s no revolutionary statement here or even a new way at looking at the subject, per se, but they’ve structured “Electrified”’s sonics in such a way that the architecture brings you in from the first and keeps you paying attention. Their songwriting with Dee, likewise, assures “Electrified” never runs on too long and ending the track at the three minute thirty one second mark makes this performance focused as well as intensely physical. There’s never any sense of Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite pandering or cheating the listener and they are clearly skilled at making quite an entertaining statement while, also, providing us with a musical outing with real value as more than just a rollicking sonic ride.
Another major part of that value comes from Dee’s vocals in the song. There’s never any sense of him pushing too hard against the backing track and, instead, he clearly is tailoring his voice to suit the songwriting and the results are memorable. Unlike many performers in this style, there’s a real feeling that Dee is more singer than pure performer, but make no mistake – he holds the listener’s attention from his first entrance into the song like any other charismatic performer. The lyrics are far from sophomoric and have a genuine adult message, but it isn’t one you haven’t heard before – despite that, Dee does an excellent job of elevating the content to something resembling pure conversational poetry and the message of not letting your life or chance pass you by is, undoubtedly, one capable of resonating with a wide audience. Patiently Awaiting the Meteorite are set for a huge 2018 thanks to the release of Canyon Diablo and this lead single from the debut creates quite a stage for them to launch their emergence on the scene.
