INTERVIEW: French producer Mathieu Koss

Hi Mathieu, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi guys thanks for having me, feeling super great actually.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Best Is Yet To Come”?

For sure! Best Is Yet To Come is my very first solo Single so this one is really special to me. I wanted to make something with the a lot of myself inside, a song with the heart, with a real message, something that get you instantly in a positive mood while you listening to it. Best Is Yet To Come as a double meaning cause i deeply thinks that yes the best is yet to come in our life and as well this the follow up of Big Jet Plane my single with Alok so that means this is the begging of something new for me as an artist and for my music.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Definitely yes. Four years ago i was traveling in Australia and around the country, and i wanted to bring that typical Aussie spirits in my music.

Any plans to release a video for any of the single?

I’d love too, I spoke with the label and there ok with that so maybe it’s coming soon …

How was the recording and writing process?

I did this song last year during the ADE with my Songwriter and partner Christon at the Bullet Sound Studio close to Amsterdam. We sat together and were like ok what should we do next after Big Jet Plane. We started to talk about my travelings and my feelings of the day listening to few ideas i had in store on my laptop and few coffees later Chris starts to play some chords on the guitar and singing, i was like ok mate we got the emotions! Then we get into the studio room and boom the magic happens. We did the very first demo that day and i’ve worked a couple months on the arrangement and the sound design to get something perfect and strong for the radio.

What was it like to work with Joan Alasta and what did she brought up to the table?.

For those who don’t know her Joan is the singer of my version of Big Jet Plane and i wanted to make that follow up with her too. She’s so talented, her voice is so unique, so we built this record only for her and her voice that why she fit so perfectly to this one.

What role does France play in your music?

This really important to me to bring that little french influences in my music not like Daft Punk or those songs but i’m talking about my parents. We always use to listen a lot of music at home from different artists and differents genre so every time i’m in the studio working on a new song i’m trying to think about that. I think this why there is so much of my heart in music haha.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than in your own?

In the case of the collaboration with Joan i build the record for her but when she was recording i was talking to her to say ok do it with your heart with your feeling with your inspiration i want to here life in your voice cause i think that’s how we get the best result. And it worked pretty well.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I’m actually finalizing the instrumental of the new one!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Can’t say anything for this one yet but it’s really big.

Any plans to hit the road?

For sure this summer looks bright and hopefully full of gigs. I can’t wait to hit back the road cause that’s my two passions Music & Traveling.

What else is happening next in Mathieu Koss’ world?

I’ve got so much in store for this year, first to come it’s a remix on Universal then another single but more ‘ Club ‘ direction, that will be released on Spinnin’ Copyright Free then another Remix and then another Single. I’m continuously working on new single, this week i did a new one and one remix so you can expect a lot of music from myself on the years to come!
