Santa Monica, California based indie pop duo Only Bricks are getting ready to spread their sun-soaked anthems with a debut EP entitled Foundation to be released this spring. Comprised of husband and wife songwriting duo Anne DiGiovanni and Joseph Lewczak, the pair hope this is the EP that announces them to the LA songwriting scene.
Foundation is an eclectic and unique collection of rock, pop, and dance, mixed with their own individual and uplifting musical sensibility. Loaded with songs that will inspire joy with bright, multi-faceted melodies, poppy hooks, and lyrics that tell relatable stories of love, desire, and connection, Only Bricks’ Foundation is destined to be the soundtrack to your summer romance. “These songs are the real stories we lived through as we separately uprooted our lives on the east coast and found each other again in California,” says Anne, “and we can’t wait to share them.”
Take, for example, infectious lead single “Twisted.” Lyrically, this dance-pop gem burns with themes of toxic love, while musically the pristine production and EDM vibes makes it hard to ignore as a potential candidate for song of the summer. Standout track “(Your Love Gets Me) High” showcases some of the more playful lyrics on the record and infectiously bounces into one of the most memorable choruses on the EP. With Foundation, Only Bricks have crafted a perfect California indie pop record, and strongly believe that it’s the catalyst that will get them the attention they deserve.
Attention and critical acclaim are not entirely new to the members of Only Bricks. Vocalist Anne DiGiovanni was raised a classical, musical theater, and church musician (piano, violin), while instrumentalist Joseph Lewczak started playing guitar at the age of six. They first combined forces when Joseph’s cover band Generator Honey, a two-time (2013-14) New York Advertising Week Battle of the Ad Bands champion, added Anne’s powerful vocals to match Joseph’s exuberant lead guitar. Each have made their distinctive mark on separate projects: Anne as a veteran of the ASCAP New York Musical Theatre Festival’s Songwriting Workshop and The Bitter End-hosted New York Singer/Songwriter Sessions, and Joseph as one half of the duo Edison & Belle whose seven-song EP, Love Beyond, was hailed by Examiner.com as an “infectious debut” with a “modern, eclectic mix of styles and tone colors.” The duo were also recently recognized with a Top 5 Song (Rock Category) in the 2017 Great American Song Contest for their co-write, “Over My Head.”
“Co-writing is such an intimate and intense process for any songwriter, and as a couple, we have had some major conflicts making this record and living together,” Joseph reflects, “But ultimately, we have felt our relationship grow so much stronger through the experience.”
Armed with Foundation, a new seven-song EP featuring indie pop gems like “Twisted,” “Afterthought,” and “Hello Goodbye,” Only Bricks are more than primed for success and their formal introduction into the Southern California songwriting scene.
