Streets of Roya is the latest project of mysterious songwriter Michael Wespi. Since the release of ‘All Eyes On Me’ in late November ‘17 the single generated 230,000 streams on Spotify and got added to numerous notable playlists, such as New Music Friday Germany, Feel good Indie, Soul ‘n’ The City etc, as well as Apple Music’s ‘Best of the Week’. Furthermore, he managed to score a synch in one of Germany’s most watched TV shows ‘Berlin Tag & Nacht’ on RTL2.
Lead-single ‘Prisoner’ is a song of fragility, inviting you to explore your inner self. Wespi states that the song should be interpreted by everyone individually. He doesn’t want to manipulate or encroach into people’s imagination by divulging his take on the track. He further explains that ‘Prisoner’ is simply one of those tracks that has always been there in the back of his mind, without knowing where it actually came from. Stream here
Speaking on the track, Streets Of Roya states “I had the lyrics for Prisoner laying around for a while but it took me almost a year and tons of ideas ’til I found a hook and melody I was satisfied with. I performed different versions of the song at various open mic sessions before i eventually came up with the final version.”
Wespi – Originally from Zurich, Switzerland, is not only a musician but also a globetrotter. He’s lived in London, Berlin and more recently Los Angeles. Beneath the hot Californian sun is also where he wrote and produced his most recent material for Streets of Roya, which can really be felt on his new material.
‘Prisoner’ will be released, alongside B-side, ‘Change’ on March 30th and will be available on Spotify and other streaming services
