Pema (Alex Cohen of Alex Napping) Shares New Single “Cry,” New Album “Bad Habits” Out 5/18 on Topshelf Records

Pema — Alex Cohen of Alex Napping’s experimental pop alter-ego — shared her new single “Cry” today, off her forthcoming album Bad Habits. Each track on Bad Habits scrutinizes a particular character flaw commonly perceived in women, and Cohen says of “Cry,” “I’ve only recently started to fully allow myself be upset or emotional at times and ‘Cry’ is the song in which I come to terms with that. We as a society tend to view strong emotions as inherently bad and irrational, especially when they are from women, and a lot of the men I have been close to often resort to either trying to immediately fix the situation, or worse, minimize the way I’m feeling. Sometimes you just need to go through the motions of feeling your feelings. Despite the slightly sulky nature of the song, I very intentionally tried to make it the danciest on the record.”

Bad Habits is out May 18 on Topshelf Records and is available for pre-order now.
