Dutch-Ghanaian singer-songwriter Nana Adjoa has released the video to her stunning new song “Honestly.” The track is the first single from her forthcoming EP Down at The Root (Part 2) to be released in June. Adjoa recently concluded a run of European tour dates including a sold-out show at the reputed Paradiso. Later this summer, she’ll play notable festivals including The Great Escape in the UK and Best Kept Secret in Holland.
The video for “Honestly” was directed by Bear Damen and shot on 35 mm film. On working with Damen, Adjoa tells us “The mystery behind this video is a delicate thing. I think Bear and I levelled on the message of the song, which made the process of creating the video seamless. His visual interpretation is something special on its own, creating a small trippy little world.”
“Honestly” is a self-described “outsider track” by Adjoa, that grew from its simple piano backing into an altogether more vibey affair. “I didn’t even think it was going to make the record because it felt so different from the rest,” Nana says. “I guess it’s about how people are scared of the possibility of something bad happening. And that fear is really strange because you don’t know what’s going to happen. You never know what’s going to happen.” As Nana herself is proving – eventually you just have to let go.
