INTERVIEW: David Shane

1. How would you classify your music?

My music is full of story telling. I come from a family of music. With that said, I tend to write melodies and hooks that incorporate similar style to that of the old school classics. Currently, my sound is a TOP 40 POP mixed with a hint of Soul, Ballad, and Dance.  In my upcoming songs, however, I am incorporating more funk and rhythm elements with a unique and rich analog sound.

2. Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

My top 5 musical influences are Michael Jackson, ColdPlay, John Mayer, Maroon 5 and OneRepublic.

3. What do you want fans to take from your music?

I want my fans to be able to connect and relate to the stories I tell within my music. I’m hoping that my fans will be touched and inspired.

4. How’s the music scene in your locale?

The music scene in Arizona, from what I’ve noticed is more geared towards metal, rock and acoustic. I’m sure you can imagine how difficult it can be to make a name for yourself as a Pop Star in Arizona.

5. What is the best concert you have been to?

I really enjoyed Taylor Swift’s performance at the arena in Glendale, AZ (David’s hometown). She put on a heck of a performance with a massive production to back her show. I guess what struck me about her performance was the ability she had in making a strong connection with her fans through all the stories of each and every song.

6. What do you like most about playing live?

Playing live is unlike anything else I have experienced. I love the adrenaline and the rush that performing live brings to me. The best part about performing is the excitement of being in the spotlight on stage. Being able to inspire and make a strong connection with my fans is what makes me the happiest.

7. Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

“Gravity” is one of my all time favorite songs on my BROKEN ALIVE Album. It was the first song I recorded for the album with Hagay Mizrahi in LA (credits include: Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Jason Derulo, Snoop Dogg, etc). This song is very dear to me as it tells the very personal story of when I had hit rock bottom after a terrible and unfortunate break up experience. This song is like the center piece for the whole album BROKEN ALIVE.

8. How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

As of this last year, it has been my primary focus to develop my brand and sound further as a Professional Singer/Songwriter/Artist. I’ve accomplished many things this past year including:

-Released full length Album “Broken Alive”

-Released Two Singles “Shooting Star” and “RX” – both accompanied with a  Music Video

-Wrote and sold 3 songs to Universal Music Group

-Music on Mainstream Television and Broadcast Radio Worldwide

-Currently writing for two Billboard Artists (Top 10, Top 40)

-Actively writing for African Pop Star (Sony Artist) and another Pop Star from Sri Lanka

-Latest song “Shooting Star” picked up by Label in the U.K. who works closely with Sony Records and Universal

-Recording with two producers (credits include: Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Fifth Harmony, Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo)

9. If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

I would love to hangout with Bruno Mars! Bruno is such a down to earth and genuine guy. He’s mega talented at dancing, singing and playing musical instruments. Every time I see him on TV, he’s always giving back to the community or pouring his heart out onto the stage. He also seems like he’d be a lot of fun just to hangout with and have a drink.

10. What’s next for you?

I have high hopes for 2018. This year I will be collaborating with some Massive Artists and writing for DJ’s and Pop Stars all around the world. I’m planning on several Major Label Releases for myself and other Artists that I’m working with. Wait until you hear my upcoming material. I am so excited for this year!
