INTERVIEW: KRANTZ

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Ahh, so this is the wonderful world of VENTS… I dig it! Doing great. Super stoked about our upcoming EP release.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Run Away With Me”?

Yeah, it’s a catchy little ditty I penned about wanting to escape reality.  The idea of the song is really about taking someone by the hand and running away from the dreary, mundane life some of us unknowingly get caught up in.  We were def craving a warm, sunny beach when we spit this one out

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Well, I def had the hots for a special girl at the time, which inspired the romantic aspect of the song but being tired of my own everyday routine played a major part in writing the lyrics, I simply wanted an escape!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yeah, The vid dropped last week and it’s doing great. Check it out at www.krantzmusic.com

The single comes off your new album The Pennock Tapes – what’s the story behind the title?

This is our first “Krantz” release as a band, I created and produced the first album in 2016, this is our first collaboration, we came together to create our sound, and identity as a band on this EP.   I live on Pennock Avenue, all of the songs came to life there so when Erik Theling, our bass player threw out the idea of calling our EP ” The Pennock Tapes”  we went with it.

How was the recording and writing process?

I usually write the bare bones of the song and bring it to the band with just guitar and vocals, from there we work on our individual parts and feel out how we want the song to sound.  Our EP was recorded at a studio on Music Row called Jay’s Place, a small portion was recorded in my home studio.

How your travelling and touring days has influence your music?

Well, you can really become inspired by anything, some of the lyrics come from people, places and situations we experience on the road.  It’s also fun to spontaneously work on ideas we come up with when we are together touring.

What role does Nashville play in your music?

The band was formed here in Nashville, we all  met while playing with different groups and just seemed to relate to one another.  We def agree that we’re all tired of hearing the monotonous,  formulated, pop country tunes that have become so commonplace here in Nashville.  It’s nice to be genuine artists with a touch of uniqueness that nobody else has, it def helps us stand out in the crowd.  One drawback of being in Nashville is the competition is tough, there are many bands located here but overall it’s friendly place to live and play.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are playing for someone else rather than working in your own original material?

Yeah, it’s much harder to put my heart and soul into it when playing someone else’s material, it can still be fun and enjoyable but nothing beats the feeling of people singing and dancing to your own band’s creations.   It’s a magical feeling.

Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

Lots of different things inspire us but for our EP, much of our inspiration can be attributed to being bored with the monotony of our everyday lives, playing gigs on Broadway night after night becomes tiresome and lackluster.  We wanted a change, an escape, so we are making that change happen through creating our own music and loving every minute of it!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yeah, we go out on the road quite a bit. We’ll be making a run through the Midwest this summer, we are hoping to hit the West coast and Europe in the near future.

What else is happening next in KRANTZ’s world?

We are constantly writing and working on new creations, we also plan to hit the studio to lay down some new tracks in the next few months.  As I mentioned earlier, we have a summer tour planned and we are looking very forward to making our new vid for our latest single, “Until We Meet Again”!   Always busy… and on the move.
