Having given us a taster of his sound with ‘Free Your Mind’, the multi talented newcomer Louis VI releases self produced follow up track ‘Jazz Got Me’ featuring Mick Jenkins. Listen HERE. Drawing from Louis VI‘s background as a jazz drummer, the vibe is heavily Jazz infused but beautifully melted with a tempo more akin to trap & grime, the combination of the double bass, live trumpet & trappy drums create a infectious energy; making the track something musically never heard before.
Speaking on the process and how the collaboration came about Louis explains, “We have a lot of friends in common, IAMNOBODI, Xavier etc so it came about organically… I’d already produced the track and done my vocals & Mick heard the track and delivered the verse the same week”. “My brotha, Emile Martinez (a notorious horn player responsible for all the trumpets on projects from Anderson Paak, Iman Omari, SiR, MNDSGN and the second feature), really took it to the next level with his trumpet parts. He’s a big part of why I felt so at home in LA, I consider Emile family and it was incredible to be able to have such a talented & infamous player bless the track.”
The track see’s Louis talking about belief. Being humble but bringing only greatness, “On the low when I’m on mountains man” elevating your energy & “surmounting your obstacles”, as people of colour, as young people. His line “No woke yet? You better wake up, that won’t cut it like your mum’s razor” is a call for the youth to be a light in the darkness of the world right now by spreading love, likewise he says in the first verse “you know we made full of atoms, don’t let your government try snatch em, or police when they draw the batton, we all data or data…” he speaks on rolling with the punches that politics both in the UK & the world seems to dealing out at the moment but taking no bullshit for a second. “The track see’s London, Chicago & Los Angeles all unite to create a whole new vibe & style that will shake the speakers in the shoobz but a message to leave you empowered, woke & energised to surmount the bullshit in your life.”
