Hi Nate, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey VENTS. I’m doing really well. I hope the same for you. Awesome website.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Two Deep”?

‘Two Deep’ is a record I created at the Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) in Minneapolis. I was visiting my older cousin, who currently lives there. I let Kain Hatton, my lead engineer, know that I was going to be in town.

Did any event inspire you to write this song ?

This song was inspired by a collision of events. Heartbreak, difficult conversations and spiritual experiences.

Any plans to releasing a video for the track ?

I plan on releasing a video. Finishing the final pieces while I’m out here in Austin. It actually isn’t for ‘Too Deep’- no plans to create a video for that song at this time.

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing process was interesting- wrote the hook and first 2 verses on the plane to Minnesota (it was Superbowl Weekend). The 3rd verse was unprepared, and freestyled towards the end of the recording process.

What was it like working with Mike Regal and how did that relationship develop?

Mike Regal and I have had a relationship since late 2015. Working with him is an honor. His essence is highly influential. We were both looking for a manager at the time we met.

How much did he influence the song?

His sound had the greatest influence on the song. We had a pre production meeting before he created the track and I can tell he put his heart into it.

What role does Milwaukee play in your writing?

I’m from right outside Milwaukee and am currently living there. In hip-hop I feel that your roots and your story should determine your style and your sound, so Milwaukee plays a large role in my writing.

How has Jay Z and Eminem influenced your music?

Eminem was the first rapper I ever heard. Listening to his music more or less taught me how to rap. My cousin (Yogi B) showed my Jay-Z shortly after. Years later he loaned me Jay-Z’s autobiography, ‘Decoded’. I read it twice.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material — How’s That coming along?

New material is coming. Mike and I are in the transaction process of creating 2 tracks, and I’m looking to add to the album with a few other producers.

Any tentative Release dates / Titles?

‘Fate Wood Have It’- Tentative.

Any plans to hit the Road?

Have a deal on the table to go oversee’s.

What else is happening next in Nate Wood’s world ?

Undetermined 🙂
