INTERVIEW: Niva The Soul Diva

Hi Niva, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I am awesome and feeling blessed.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Hennessy Love”?

Yes, Hennessy Love is my new single that was produced by my friend Stay High 149 who sent me the track a while back, once I heard it, I immediately loved it. I wrote the song and recorded at my studio. It is a fun upbeat energetic song about getting to know someone you are crazy about.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Not really, I am a songwriter at heart , so I usually have be in a zone or moved by different melodies when a thought or idea comes to me musically.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

I must say I had the best time on set of my video! It was awesome because I was the boss, I was in charge. I was blessed to hire a whole crew of people such as, choreographer, stylist, makeup artist, dancers, and of course the camera crew to support me and bring my vision to life. Everyone was in sync and on time. I was sad at the end of the day because we all had so much, the day went by so fast .

The single comes off your new album Life, Love & Music – what’s the story behind the title?

I came up with titled because I wanted it to implement things that not only I’ve been through but also so my audience could relate to it as well. One of my faves from the EP is the song titled “Warrior” which is about being a warrior and overcoming any obstacles that may come your way, loving yourself despite what others may think of you.

How was the recording and writing process?

At first my motivation to finish the EP was a struggle. Due to the fact that I am an indie artist in the music industry, it can be depressing at times, especially when you are constantly investing/spending lots of money and not seeing your hard work paying off.  It can definitely leave a person feeling depressed. However, I was able to push through and get the project done.

What role does NYC play in your music?

I’ve been in NYC 10 years now and when I first moved here I was homeless and struggling to make ends meet. I’ve been blessed over the years to accomplish a lot things musically, especially with having my team at helping me along the way. I’ve had the chance to meet celebrities, attend Red Carpet events, perform at different places, and have myself placed on the Grammy Ballots for Grammy considerations. Although I’ve done all these good things, I feel as though I could be doing more musically with backing of a major label.

Known for playing with different genres – how do you get to balance them together?

Yes! I love all genres of music. So when I write and record new songs, I try to make songs for everyone. That’s why with this EP I wanted it to be different from your average record.

What aspect of hope did you get to explore on this record?

After getting invited to the Grammy Awards and other pre grammy events where I had the opportunity to hang with other stars, I was inspired to keep believing in my dreams and following my goals. The key is to never give up, I have a good team of people behind me who believe in me.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m hoping to perform at a few LGBT Pride events and some local shows as well. If I get an invite to go tour with major jobs, I’ll definitely hop on board.

What else is happening next in Niva The Soul Diva’s world?

I’m currently in the process of the treatment plan for my next music videos for “Let me Be Your Radio” and “Red Rose”.  Then in fall, I will be back in the studio working on my next full Rock & Soul album.
