New Zealand singer-songwriter, Gin Wigmore, premiered the visual accompaniment to the title track of her exciting new #GIRLGANG project via a premiere with Vevo. The #GIRLGANG project was designed to highlight and celebrate fellow women and find a new way to experience music through a variety of artistic formats.
The video for “GIRL GANG” is a powerful statement to highlight a collection of seminal women through the ages, in animated portrait form.
The track itself is an indie pop anthem, propelled by confronting percussion, driven guitars and a timebomb piano melody that serves as the spine of the song. The refrain of “It’s A Girl Gang” is not just infectious but undoubtedly empowering, creative and defiant. You can watch the video now on YouTube or Vevo and the track is also available across your favorite streaming channels.
“GIRL GANG” will be featured on Gin’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, Ivory, due out Friday April 6th. It will serve as the follow up to Gin’s critically-acclaimed 2015 full-length Blood To Bone, which earned the singer-songwriter a nomination for Best Live Act at the 2015 MTV EMA’s and the award for Best Female Artist at the 2015 NZ Music Awards. In 2013, she released Gravel & Wine, which spawned hit singles “Man Like That,” “Black Sheep” and “Kill Of The Night” and in 2009 the release of her debut album Holy Smoke. Both albums reached #1 and multi-platinum status back home in New Zealand. You can preorder Ivory now which will grant you access to five instant grat tracks including “Hallow Fate,” “Beatnik Trip,” “Dirty Mercy”, “Cabrona” and “Girl Gang.”
Statement from Gin Wigmore regarding “Girl Gang”:
You knew it was coming… the final song to accompany the whole shabang. GIRL GANG. In all its sass attack (karate chop emoji if there was one) – may it sweep the airwaves, empower you to take a stronger stride, a louder opinion and a right to love, adore and praise who you are. xo #GIRLGANG”
