INTERVIEW: Zonderling

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good thanks! Jaap just got back from a crazy but good Miami Music Week and we just put out a new single called ‘Nightcall’. Lot’s of exiting things happening!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Nightcall”?

We ran into Kye Sones at the Lost Frequencies & Friends party at ADE and he sent us some demos after that. Nightcall was one of them and we wrote the music around the vocals.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes! Actually, the official video is out now and you can watch it here

How was the recording and writing process?

Because we wrote the music around the vocal, it was not a complicated process. Only at the end when the instrumental was done we asked Kye to re-record some of the lines, to fit the music a little better.

What was it like to work with Kye Sones and what did he brought up to the table?

He’s a great singer and songwriter. He was also letting us adjust the arrangement, chords and processing of his vocals, so it felt very free!

After the success from your previous track, were you any nervous while working on this new single?

Not really, you always just write music you think is good enough to release into the world. If it becomes a success, that’s great, but if not, not a problem either. You cannot anticipate on these things.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

Yes, mostly writing a track around a vocal, or vocal idea, is very different from writing an instrumental track. In this case the collaboration was with the vocalist, so that was a nice combination.

Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?

Nothing planned at this point, but it’s not a bad idea!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nope not yet, first comes the music!

Any plans to hit the road?

A lot haha, we’re playing all over Europe this summer and there are plans to come to China, Asia, the Middle East, South America and back to the US.

What else is happening next in Zonderling’s world?

We have some more club tracks standing by for release, as well as one or two collaborations ánd some new remixes.
