We’ve been great. We’ve been working hard finishing up the new album, playing SXSW, and just trying to enjoy Austin a bit before we hit the road again this summer.
Can you talk to us more about your song “Don’t It Feel Weird (Falling In Love)”?
Sure! Don’t It Feel Weird (Falling In Love) is a love song about what its like to fall in love with the same person…again. The lyrics are pretty personal but is basically a conversation between two people meeting again, being nervous, apologizing and sharing their feelings about how falling in love again feels weird and great and strange and wonderful.
Did any event inspire you to write this song?
My awesome wife- married for 4 years and together for 11 years. There have been plenty of ups and downs but she’s the best. I wrote this song for us.
Any plans to release a video for the track?
The single comes off your new album We Are The Nightowls – how was the recording and writing process?
This was a fun one for us. The song started out as a jam written quickly at the end of a rehearsal. All of the main sections, including the vocal melodies, were all improvised on the spot. After listening back to the recording, we made some edits to the arrangement, added horns and harmonies and that ended up being the song on the album. After sitting with it in the studio for a month or so, we decided to add strings.
What role does Austin play in your writing?
Austin has a deep music legacy and from the beginning we wanted to make sure that the album contained unique elements of our hometown and of ourselves. So, we added slide guitar on “Laybackwittit” and wrote Austin-specific lyrics on “Get Funked Up.”
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
Any plans to hit the road?
Yep, we’ll be hitting the road in late April headed towards the West Coast, then Southeast US in mid-May. Then looks like we’ll be touring through the Northeast US in July and Colorado/Midwest area in August.
What else is happening next in The Nightowls´ world?
Well, we’re back to the drawing board for writing and recording new music and will be headed back into the studio next week. We’re also prepping our live show for our summer tours and brainstorming for our upcoming music videos. Work Work Work!
