INTERVIEW: Rob Alexander

How would you classify your music?

I classify my music as melody-driven “classic adult contemporary” with plenty of “hooks”.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

1) Elton John

2) Neil Diamond

3) Billy Joel

4) Christopher Cross

5) Paul McCartney

What do you want fans to take from your music?

Hopefully they’ll find the choruses “catchy” and memorable.  My songs are meant to linger in the mind after listening.

How’s the music scene in your locale?

The music scene in South Florida is fairly non-existent for new talent. Veteran acts perform regularly at the larger arena venues.

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

The best concert I’ve been to was Elton John, and although I’ve seen him perform close to 100 times, he never disappoints.  At present, I don’t perform live… but I won’t rule it out.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

I think “All That’s Mine Is Yours” is my favorite.  It’s about fear of commitment and later realizing it would be a mistake and missed opportunity to not be with the one you love.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

As far as evolving, since I’ve just released my debut album, I believe my singing and vocal ability has improved.  Hopefully as I begin recording my next project I will add different musicians and try different musical styles.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be?

I would love to meet and work with Elton John.  Actually we’ve briefly met, but I hope for some sort of collaborative meeting in the future.

What’s next for you?

I start recording more music this Summer in Los Angeles.

I am hoping to have another album out by 2021.  I practice medicine full-time now so making frequent trips to LA to record has to be planned during my vacations.
