INTERVIEW: Morgan Page

Hi Morgan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Good! Staying busy working on the next wave of music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Born To Fly”?

Born To Fly is a deeper, more sultry type of record. I wanted to experiment with a series of EPs that form one long album.

Did any events in particular inspire you to write it?

Inspiration is rarely a conscious event.. Usually I’m experimenting with chords or sounds and something just clicks.

Any plans to release a video for any of the singles on the EP?

I think we’ll do the usual lyric video thing. Sometimes I miss doing those expensive elaborate music videos!

Why did you name the EP after this track in particular?

I just liked that phrase, and it fits the “In The Air” vibe.

Would you call this a conceptual record?

Maybe – it’s just a collection of my deeper works at the moment.

Will each EP follow the same or a different theme?

That’s a good question – I will probably organize them in themes that make sense. One of them will definitely be more pop focused.

How was the recording and writing process?

The whole process takes a while from the initial demos – I spend a lot of time trying different frameworks to see what best serves the song. Lots of road testing usually, if the song fits in a club set.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

Collaborations are great and really push you in different directions – they can also mutate and take longer, but the approach is usually the same.

Any plans to hit the road with another major tour/tech concept like the MPP3D tour?

I would love to do another MPP3D tour. It’s very expensive and time-consuming developing the content, but I might do a scaled down version of it someday.

What else is happening next in Morgan Page’s world?

Right now I’m work on some music for Tesla – scoring some projects, wrapping up the other EPs, and gearing up for summer touring season. Also working on my quick tips project for music producers. see: http://mpquicktips.com
