Conceptz, a rap duo comprised of honest to goodness brothers, formed in Orange County, NY during the year 2011. Siblings Highrowglyphfix & Short Fuze started out modestly with their flagship release Roll it up but it couldn’t seem to break into any charts or change the course of the mainstream. It wasn’t until the 2012 mixtape Euphoria that this heavy hitting duo really started to turn some heads. Allowing their musical career to gestate while building a formidable series of releases, Conceptz returned full-force in 2013 to release a flurry of mixtapes that included remixes of Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane and many more.
From that point onward Conceptz had launched into a whole different realm in their question for the hip-hip title; an ever busy concert schedule cropped up, they started making appearances at fashion events and television shows, the duo filmed 10 music videos (several of which were added to rotation on VH1 and MTV), the single “Funky 5” received a Grammy nomination for best video in 2015 and three singles managed to break into the Billboard Hot 100. Conceptz could do no wrong and their masterplan just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
The band’s newest single “Fall (featuring Cassidy Wiz)”is a powerful hip-hop statement that delivers bite-size, brass-knuckle loaded blows of pointed, lightning fast raps set ablaze by crunching digital beats, mashing cut-ups and throbbing bass that was born and bred to be played loud at parties, your favorite watering hole and even at a high school dance (so long as you opt for the alternate clean version). Jabbing, staccato vocals providing multiple points and counterpoints get the blood pumping and the entire affair sticks to a short and sweet approach that doesn’t overstay its welcome and gets the job done with accuracy and precision to spare. This cut is already a hit in the making and with Conceptz’ knack for turning their best material into award-nominated videos and chart-climbing smashes; the balance between strong hip-hop lyrical hustle and memorable wordplay cresting into downright memorably hook-y patterns (both musically and vocally) ensures that the song sticks around long in your memory after listening. It’s a testament to the fact that Conceptz has played live across the country with huge acts like Ghostface Killah, Earl Sweatshirt, Lady Leshurr, Lil Durk and many other well-known names in the genre. Conceptz deserves nothing less than to be onstage, trading shot for shot with some of the greats as their work ethic, presentation of their material and general sense of creating new rap standards is second to none.
“Fall” is one of the finest hip-hip tracks in years and it showcases an act at their top of their game. With dazzling rhyme and intricate rhythm collaborations, “Fall” achieves that tough, raw vibe that most modern rap artists strive for but never seem to achieve. If you’re looking for an authentic nod and homage to the old school without the material approaching a direct throwback to the point of parody, Conceptz are just the cure for your hip-hop doldrums.
