Taking place throughout May, the widely praised annual festival has become a New York City institution featuring performances by today’s most forward-looking musicians; tributes to legendary artists, scenes, and sounds; and conversations with impactful, innovative musicians. The shows will unfold throughout the boroughs at some of NYC’s most unique settings, from iconic institutions to uncharted spaces completely re-configured for the occasion.
Park Avenue Armory is one of the iconic NYC institutions co-presenting one of the festival’s most anticipated shows: Oneohtrix Point Never’s MYRIAD – a multi-level, daring, immersive performance built specifically for one of New York’s greatest performing arts spaces. Today, the artist has released a trailer for the concert featuring new music. The video is by Daniel Swan and David Rudnick, directed by Oneohtrix Point Never, and featuring animation by Swan with additional animation by Nate Boyce. MYRIAD follows last year’s award-winning score by Oneohtrix Point Never for the film Good Time. Watch the trailer here: https://opn.lnk.to/MyriadNYC.
Some of the other highly anticipated live performances at the festival include the kickoff of Fever Ray‘s North American tour in support of recent album Plunge; serpentwithfeet‘s both moons, featuring music from his upcoming debut album soil; Tristan Perich‘s premiere of Drift Multiply–a piece for 50 violins and 50 self-built 1-bit speakers taking place at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine; the immersive concert installation Dream Machine, taking place at Pioneer Works and led by director-musician Sophia Brous, multi-instrumentalist/composer Dave Harrington, and designers Wild Dogs; John Mausbringing his visceral and haunting take on synth-pop to Coney Island where he will perform and compose music for select rides at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park; Careful on the Pavement–a night featuring young and ruthless rappers inspired by horror flicks and disrupting hip-hop including Rico Nasty, Asian Doll, Bali Baby and more; and the third annual Brujas Anti-Prom will close out the festival, celebrating the limit-shattering collective of young radical gender-self-determined activists.
