Home / Music / Artist Interviews / INTERVIEW: Y. A. S.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Vibrations”?

Its a pretty multi dimensional piece of music, inspired by a number of genres and it was just about creating a cool, quirky vibe that compliments the lyric, which is about the connections we can have with people that transcend words, space and time.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A really weird night at a party in Melrose in LA. There was a full moon and everyone was embracing their weirdness. I had a moment with someone which was so surreal and intense and when I got back to London we had a very strong connection still. And it was like we could hear each others thoughts.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

If I had the budget I would do a video for every single song I put out. So right now I am saving it for the last song on the EP, as I have a really strong concept for it.

How was the recording and writing process?

Very easy for me. I work with a little team of me, my best friend who is an amazing writer (Eyelar) and Knightstarr who produces the majority of my music. We vibe so well, the writing process is so quick and fun. Two sessions max per track is how we usually work.

What role does Scotland play in your music?

Not massively, other than memories that inspire songs. But, one of my favourite things to do is when go home to see my family and drive down the empty roads blasting my music and if it gives me a good feeling, i think i have a great song. I don’t have that experience with my music in london.

How’s your new EP coming along?

Its all done, so is the next one. I’m happy with it, all I can do is hope people like it and it does what its meant to do.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’ll be out before the summer and I am going with “Ethereal Pop.” 🙂

How personal we can expect this new material to be?

Its very personal to me. Some of these songs where turning points for me as an artist and to understanding, expressing and letting go of what I was thinking or feeling. Being able to articulate what is going on internally is so important to my personal healing and I think its amazing to look back and see how far you’ve come.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to perform the EP. And it would be amazing to open up for an artist I love.

What else is happening next in Y.A.S.’ world?

Continually to make music and release music, hopefully with more visuals. The next EP is definitely more RnB influenced which is exciting.
