INTERVIEW: Jack Wins

Hi Jack, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey guys, thanks for having me! I’m very well! Busy in the studio finishing off a remix and new productions ☺

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Freewheelin'”?

Of course! It’s a song I’ve written with Caitlyn Scarlett, which is a feel good house record talking about that feeling you get when you fall in love with someone and feel like together, you can take on the world!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well the lyrics were written by Caitlyn Scarlett with another writer and I was given this topline. The vocal performance and lyrics really inspired me to produce a track around it that in one way represented the lyrics, but still had some nice clubby elements.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

This is something we’re discussing with the label as we speak 😉

How was the recording and writing process?

As mentioned earlier, I was given the topline sang by Caitlyn Scarlett’s manager and basically produced the backing track behind it. Normally I tend to work with the singer/songwriter from the start, but I like this approach as well, because when a topline inspires you, the production comes together quite naturally.

What was it like to work with Caitlyn Scarlett and what did she bring to the table?

We didn’t actively work together on this track – she obviously brought amazing lyrics and a great vocal performance to the table! I finally met her a couple of weeks ago and are planning to go into the studio very soon to work on a follow-up ☺

After the success from your previous music, were you any nervous while working on this latest single?

To be honest, it’s really something that doesn’t cross my mind when I’m working on a new track – I’m just in the moment and want to try and make the best track possible and have fun in the process!

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?

If I work on solo tracks, I tend to start with a songwriter from scratch – often I’ll prepare some chord progressions and then start from there or alternatively I get a topline and produce a track around it. I haven’t done many collabs with other producers yet, but in often depends where the other producer is in the world. I’m currently working on several collabs and generally send files back and forth to each other and build the track like that ☺

Does your new single mean we can expect more collaborations with Axtone?

For sure, but there are also a couple of other releases lined up with other labels to mix things up a bit, but Axtone if definitely my home ☺

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, lots of exciting gigs coming up! I’m playing at Medusa Festival in Mexico on March 22nd, Supporting Hardwell at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on April 1st and playing Creamfields in August to name a few ☺

What else is happening next in Jack Wins’ world?

Remix wise, I just released my Kygo remix and finished off one for amazing UK talent called Sam Calver. The Freewheelin’ remix package is getting released soon and after that I have my debut release on Tiesto’s AFTR:HRS ☺
