I’ve been good, just keepin it 100. Nah, but seriously, I’ve been really blessed. Working as hard as ever and focused on winning in life.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Money Up”?
“Money Up” is ultimately a record about persistence and focus. In life, we all have distractions but in this particular case so-called friends and women were the distractions from the end goal, which was getting to the money.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The world in general. A lot of people lose sight of the end goal and get distracted with temptations. When I look at some people I see them trying to obtain goals with no value or simply wasting time. Looking at the world through that perspective helped me come up with the hook of the song, which resulted with Money Up.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Of course! You can’t drop a single without a visual. It’s already been shot and I directed it (may start referring to myself as Hunnid Speilberg). It’s influenced by a movie in the 90’s and turned out dope. Can’t wait to share with the world! It’s going to be dropping later this month, so be on the look out for that!
How was the recording and writing process?
Unlike the norm for me, this record took some time to create and get ready to release. I recorded and then re-recorded. I wrote and then re-wrote. And then I edited, then edited and then edited some more. None of this refers to the concept, just the fact that I wanted to present a sound body of work to the world.
What role does Chicago play in your writing?
Chicago is a big influence in my writing. I feel like Chicago is the co-author or co-writer in the story that I’m telling, not just this particular single but all of my work and life period. Growing up in Chicago allowed for certain experiences, both good and bad, to take place which has led to my perspective in music.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
At that moment, I have enough songs for an album but I’m not sure the world wants an album from Hunnid. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve, but an album isn’t one of them right now.
What personal vices will you be exploring on this record?
It’s really about just avoiding temptations and staying focused. That’s what the record is about but also applies to the process of me creating this record – I had to make sure I stayed focused and kept the end goal in mind.
Any plans to hit the road?
I think I’m on the road more than I am at home now. The next stop for me is NYC. I’ll be working on some future projects and media appearances.
What else is happening next in HUNNID’s world?
There’s a lot happening, but you’re just going to have to stay tuned in and keep it 100. And yes that means following me on all social media platforms and connecting with me LOL.
