Today, 28 Days in the Valley, the new album by Los Angeles-based rockers Dorothy, is available worldwide. The album features the lead single “Flawless” for which the band has just released a new video. The video premiered yesterday via LA Weekly.
“Flawless” has a vulnerable message that begins with heartbreak and ends as a vindicated feel good anthem of self-love. “This one came fast to me,” shares frontwoman Dorothy Martin. “It was very subconscious. Linda Perry pulled the lightness out of me, both personally and musically. This record is definitely still bold, but it’s happier. It’s kind of like the butterfly coming out of the cocoon.”
“Flawless is the best song ever and if you don’t think so, you can fuck off,” adds Perry. The song is currently in rotation on radio stations across the country, including spins from the world-famous Los Angeles favorite KROQ, KLOS and SiriusXM’s Octane.
The new full-length album 28 Days in the Valley has all of the in-your-face bluesy, gritty rock and roll that fans loved on 2016’s ROCKISDEAD, but is fueled by less metal, with more California desert rock vibes, and has an added thunder built on layers of emotion.
“This was a spiritual journey and very healing, and because of that it’s an unapologetically honest record,” says Martin. “Somehow Linda Perry knew I had more to give as a singer and writer. I used to hide behind the tough girl sound, but she taught me that there is power in my vulnerability and that’s what you get on this record.”
“We recorded the old-school way like the Stones did. After writing, we did a good amount of pre-production and worked out the energy and vibe of the songs and then we went in and recorded live, usually in just a few takes. Nothing on this record is programmed. It’s raw and real and honest.”
Dorothy, who have been added to the recently announced line-up for Arroyo Seco Weekend in Pasadena, made a lasting impact on SXSW this week with multiple performances and presentations. Their first event was headlining the Be Conference, mentoring the next generation of women, on Monday. The seminar featured a select group of powerful women that included Katie Couric and Rachel Bloom.
Then on Thursday, following an incredible SXSW Official presentation from We Are Hear earlier in the week, Dorothy celebrated their album release at Quantum Collective’s Southwest Invasion at the flagship Whole Foods Market.
