Been busy and better than ever! Hope all is great in your world.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Way Out”?
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not one in particular. When I meet people, or see friends, they are always intrigued at how I live overseas, so freely and can see right away that I chose an alternate path through my story, my music, how I dress, etc. “Way Out” is really part of my response to that. Like I say in the song “IOLO” (I only live once) is my motto and I want to experience and give as much life as I can during my time here. I’ve been through a lot in my life which gave me the confidence to fly in uncharted territory. “Way Out” is just letting you know from the jump that this is a different ride!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
I just finished the video up last week. 🙂 Still finalizing a release date but will definitely let you know!
How was the recording and writing process?
Always fun! I live to create and music is my air. There’s always a lot of energy and creativity in my sessions.
What was it like to work with The Art Teacher and how did that relationship develop?
The Art Teacher and I have a great chemistry. His ability to help me get my sonic vision out has been a blessing. Not many producers are as fluid and comfortable with my out of the box approach as he is. We met through a mutual industry friend and were friends for a while before we ever worked together. “Way Out” was actually the very first song we ever did together.
How much did he influence the song?
He influenced it a lot. We spent a lot of time discussing what my vision was for everything so when it was time to go in, he was able to not only articulate but also put his bounce to it. I always studied and loved the chemistry between the greats like Tim and Missy, Dre and Em, Quincy and MJ. That innovative magic is something that we try and tap into every time we are together.
What roles do Atlanta and Singapore play in your writing?
Being from Atlanta obviously influences a lot but I would really say everything plays a role. Everything I write is a reflection of my life, journey and experience. I’ve lived in a few states and a few countries and traveled to somewhere around 25 countries. I really get out and experience these places. I love getting to know the people and their cultures wherever I go and it definitely comes through the pen.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
Being that I’m brand new on the scene, we are releasing singles for now and an EP towards the end of the summer. I have so much music to share so, YES!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
No date yet and yes, I have some working titles. J
Any plans to hit the road?
Definitely, my favorite place in the world is performing and touching people with my music. To feel their energy coming back to you in person is everything!
I definitely want people to feel what I do in the flesh! We are working on some dates and will definitely keep you updated with all!
What else is happening next in WNT-AL-N’S world?
Planting some international seeds which I’ll discuss later. I’m planning to get back to Vietnam soon and see my kids from Blue Dragon which is always amazing and inspiring. More music, more dance, more fashion, more creating and more more and more sauce!
