We could not be better! Our debut single “Too Late” is doing well online and we are so excited to have the follow up “We’ll Never Change” our now!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “We’ll Never Change”?
“We’ll Never Change” explores the complexities of societal pressure and how it affects the outcome of someone growing up in today’s world.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Growing up, we both always had the desire and passion to pursue our dreams of making and playing music for a living. And while music and music creation has become undeniably more accessible, the arts are definitely still thought of as “hobbies” by most. As a result, many people tried to convince us to pursue other more realistic careers, and this is our song about how music is not a want, but rather a need. There is nothing else we will do!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We’re going to be releasing an in studio performance video coming in then next few weeks!
How was the recording and writing process?
With most of our PARKWILD music, we have a very streamlined process of Justin creating the instrumentals as I [Austin] am writing melody and lyric. However with this song, we initially wrote it and couldn’t figure out the production at all. So I [Austin] went in on the drum groove and then Justin got inspired and took it from there. We ended up rewriting the chorus to what it is now as a result of where the track ended up.
After the success from your previous track, were you any nervous while working on this new single?
Because we write and create for other artists as well, I don’t think we are nervous anytime when we’re in the studio. It’s what we do every day, and we’re so fortunate to be able to constantly stay creative that when an idea pops up we just roll with it, not thinking of the outcome.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else than when you are writing in your own?
When we write with other artists we try to make sure that their voice and their vision is projecting through the song, so we play a bit of a therapeutic role to a lot of collaborators. Whereas when we write for ourselves we often times tried to discover new things about ourselves that we didn’t realize prior and so the process can take a little bit longer as it’s very introspective.
What role does NYC play in your music?
It’s where we really started getting 100% serious about PARKWILD. It influences the grit and energy of every song we write for ourselves even when we aren’t there. It’s such a special place and there nothing else like it.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
We’re just constantly gathering a bunch of songs, potentially with an EP down the road. I don’t think a full album will be for quite a while, however you never know!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
No idea yet!
Any plans to hit the road?
We are doing a college tour the spring to promote both of our two singles that are out. We hope to expand to a lot of new places this year!
