INTERVIEW: Dirty Freud

Hi D, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Pretty good guys and great to be speaking to you from Vents.

Can you talk to us more about your latest EP “Boxing With God”?

Yeah, so it’s a five track EP that I’ve been having some great fun with. The story is man being dwarfed and realising how small we are in the universe. Sounds a bit mad but was deep into the story writing and lyric writing.

How was the recording and writing process?

Well, was great for once to be honest, usually it turns into a battle, but this time I felt it was a lot more me in that I felt it wrote it self it was pretty enjoyable and I couldn’t wait to get it out there.

How much of a departure and follow up would you this record to be?

So, I’d say Boxing with God is full of maturity, for me you can really tell I’ve grown as an artist and that was the most important thing for me. I wanted to show that I’m ready to bring out consistently good songs with my electro-dub style at the core of each track.

What aspect of personal journey did you get to explore on this record?

Personally, a lot of things are different my last big EP “The Talking Cure” was a good piece of work but I felt it was still me fighting with my sound and myself. These days I feel pretty good, I’m a father these days, my career is going places so not as frustrated, so I’ve definitely mellowed out. This is the first time in a while I’ve got some great people round me and I’m in a good place.

About ‘Kadema’- the first single of you upcoming EP, did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yeah, definitely, just being more positive in life helped me write this and I met some really great artists named Salio and Fullmarx who had the same vision of Karma and being determined. So, the word for us was just a combination of these ways of thinking.

You recently released the video for ‘Kadema’. Share some moments with us and let us know about its concept.

Well, this is a massively proud moment for me as a single off the EP, people are really digging it was important to put into images things I’m into but push the story. So, I love skating and the seaside so that was the rough base of the tune.

Any plans to hit the road?

Yeah, playing in London in April, Leeds in May and Sheffield then out to play a few dates in Croatia in particular playing Soundwave Festival over in Tisno.

What else is happening next in Dirty Freud’ world?

So, got another EP cooking, got a lot of different projects and collaborations coming through too. And got a big date in USA in 2019 so buzzing for the future. Thanks for taking the time guys big ups.
