Sharing a Topanga Canyon treehouse with Elohim – friend, collaborator, and soon to be tourmate – Yoshi Flower is undoubtedly in good company. On his debut single “Movies” (premiered exclusively via The Fader), the Detroit-via-LA artist begins to carve his own eclectic lane as electronic, hip-hop, and pop influences all blend together into a hazy, romantic romp through cinematic trappings. He poignantly likens the track, alongside his music as a whole, to “nailing the coffin closed for genres and the old, constructed ‘normal.’”
“With the aid of some psychedelic devices to speed up the process, I’ve realized that no one really fits into any of these one-dimensional boxes that we are sold by the media and companies and old rigid people”
Yoshi is slated to head out on a spring tour alongside Elohim (all dates here), not to mention a collaboration between the two that’s in the works. As for “Movies”, it’s out now.
