Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Lost In My Way”?
– “Lost In My Way” provides a confused and uneasy vibe. I chose this to be the first single off of the project because I felt it was a great track to leave the listener wanting to hear more.
Did any event, in particular, inspire you to write this song?
– It was actually a combination of many events that inspired me to write this song. I was 19 when I wrote this and I was under a lot of pressure as far as choosing the right path in life and trying to make something of myself. I still am, and I feel like we all feel lost sometimes. This song was my way of taking everything that I was going through and putting it all into one song. That’s why the lyrics are very broad and open-ended because I wanted everybody to be able to relate. We may not all struggle with the same thing, but we all struggle with something.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
-Yes. The video was a lot of fun to shoot and will be coming out later this month.
The single comes off your new album Feel It – what’s the story behind the title?
-We’ve actually decided to label Feel It a mixtape, but an album is definitely in the making! The whole motto of this project is “Don’t just hear it, feel it.” The idea of this was that the production tells just as much of the story as the lyrics. A lot of times today, people either gravitate towards the lyricism or the beat. We want people to gravitate towards both. A lot of thought went into having the lyrics AND the beat work together to paint the entire picture.
How was the recording and writing process?
-This song was actually put together pretty quickly! We were playing around with a sample that kept saying “lost” which immediately put the hook in my head! We ended up not using that sample or any samples but it put the word lost in my head which inspired the direction of this song!
What role does NJ play in your writing?
-New Jersey is home, so it has everything to do with my writing. This is the place where I’ve experienced everything I’ve ever been through so far.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
-After I wrote the hook of this song, I felt that if I added a rap verse that I was going to get to specific with what I was going through. I didn’t want to do that, I didn’t want my personal struggle at the time to take away from how relatable the hook was. That’s why I decided to put the short interlude in the middle of the song to slightly describe what I meant by the lyrics in the hook.
Any plans to hit the road?
-Definitely! Hopefully sooner than later!
