Hey! Thanks so much for having me! I’m awesome, It’s been a full on couple of weeks. Ransom is out, I’ve turned another year older. It’s been a whole lot of celebrating (and cake).
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ransom”?
Oh, i’d love to! Ransom is a song I wrote towards the end of last year all about the beginning stages of a blossoming relationship. All of the emotions in overdrive and the oh-so-common “he loves me, he loves me not” dilemma, followed by the infamous “now or never” dilemma. Classic.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Well, I guess I have my partner Alex to thank! He kept me waiting for months before it was ‘official’ so i dialled back a few years ago and retrospectively wrote all about it! Luckily, he was worth the wait.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
There is an awesome lyric video made by my incredibly talented sister, Kate Neville. She has put in so much work into this video and I hope you guys love it just as much as we do!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process was different! Initially I was workshopping a different song with my producer Marc Malouf and it just wasn’t working, which at the time was devastating. BUT there was a silver lining around the cloud. I took the music home and started writing a whole new song. The whole thing was written in 20 minutes! I give you, Ransom.
What role does Sydney and Australia play in your writing?
Oh I love being in Australia. Sydney is awesome, it’s a mix of busy streets and beautiful beaches. I’m truly so lucky to live in such an amazing country. I’m constantly inspired by my surroundings so whether it is Sydney or somewhere else, I just remind myself to look around and take in everything I feel.
Who are your major influences?
I’m influenced by such a wide range of artists! I just love music and I am a big fan of pretty much all genres…except for heavy metal, I’m not exactly the head-banging type, ha! But at the moment I’m really inspired by Vance Joy, Lorde and as always Lana Del Rey.
Does your new single mean we can expect a new album – how’s that coming along?
Oh! There isn’t an album on the cards at the moment! I’m a small artist and largely self-supported by my amazing team and family, so an album isn’t something we are planning at the moment. However that is the dream and I hope to one day be able to pursue a passion project, such as an album.
Any plans to hit the road?
That would be amazing! We don’t have any shows booked at the moment but please stay tuned on my social media so you will know when I’m in your town!
What else is happening next in Lucy Neville’s world?
What’s happening next? More music! There’s always more music coming, we’re already in the studio working hard on the next single so…watch this space!
