INTERVIEW: Dtease

Hi Sammy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Thanks for having us! This has been a killer year for us so far.  We have a stellar team right now and we’re getting ready to put out our first single.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Slapshot”? Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

The toxic political climate was and is a huge concern to us and we wanted to express that in a song while also tempering it with hope and humor.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I’m so glad you asked about the video! Pure Grain Audio is premiering the video Monday, March 5th. We were lucky to get the SBCC Vaquero National Champion Cheerleaders who represent cheerleaders for rock and roll in the video. It’s a fun and wild experience!

How was the recording and writing process?

The Writing process was great! One day Wilson, Mike, and myself went to practice, started jamming and voila, out came came Slapshot, our Little Rock n roll baby. Laughs. As far as recording, we recorded at a place called Castaway 7 studio in Ventura. We were able to experiment with a lot of different guitar amps and pedals, which was really fun for me. We knocked out 3 songs really fast!

What is it about these decades that you find so fascinating?

I think a lot of us would have loved to have been growing up and playing music in those times. First off the gear…..total gear lust over those beautiful Hiwatt amps Pete Townsend used. And Jimis Marshall stacks. Beautiful analog sounds from the warm tube, analog recording gear. There was the peace, Love thing, but there was fierce competition musically in the rock world. Zeppelin, Townsend, Clapton, Bolan. They were all competing to be the best rockers in the land. That really set the stage for everybody else to really bring it big time. The mods and punks of Britain were badass too. All that angst and raw energy fueling the music was phenomenal.

How has T. Rex and David Bowie influences your music?

Bowie has always been fascinating to me. He spanned so many generations and always stayed relevant. He also collaborated with so many artists and wasn’t afraid to take risks. He was quite a maverick! I was a late bloomer with T-Rex, but when I watched a video of Bolan live, I was completely transfixed! Bolanmania was in full effect! His one guitar sounded so massive it seemed like several players at once.

How’s your new album coming along?

Our new album is completely finished! And we have an EP left over as well. We had unlimited time in the studio, so we really killed it. We have one song finished for our next album called Sinsation that kicks ass.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Our release date for our debut album is April 20th. We’re still working on the album name.

Any plans to hit the road?

We are hitting LA hard right now, and will be playing a lot of shows in Southern California.

What else is happening next in The DTEASE‘s world?

As far as our plans for the future, we want to expand our crazy rock show. Right now we have sexy aliens, machete wielding dancers, and our signature dirty Mattress with pillow fight. But that’s not enough! It’s always bigger and better for The Dtease! Look out for us in a town near you on our way to world domination!! Muah ha ha

Special kudos to our manager Mikey Doling and Media Manager and dancer extraordinaire… Bettina Pavone!!
