Hi Lisa, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello! I am doing great, thank you for featuring me on VENTS!

Can you talk to us more about your song “Mad About It” (watch here)?

“Mad About It” is a song about being deceived by someone you love.  It was written from a true place by me and my co-writer Olivia Wik.

Of course, we threw in a few lyrics that weren’t entirely based on our own lives, but followed country songwriting traditions like: “I’ll powder my nose, with the powder from my gun”… “shotgun draggin’ in the ground, cigarette to burn it up”.

It was one of those songs that was so easy to write. We wrote it within a couple of hours!

Did any event inspire you to write this song?

Yes, fortunately (or unfortunately). I was cheated on in a long-term relationship – and naturally, I got pretty mad about it and wrote a song!

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Messy!! But so much fun! We really went at it with a different angle of reacting to a relationship breakdown in a more creative way.

My good friend and co-producer Jeremy Goodrick built this huge box for us to film in and Edward Platero – the director – was so easy to work with! My whole crew was fantastic.

The actor, Sean, was a real trooper for letting me slap him in the face with paint – haha!

The funniest and most challenging part was that Edward and Jeremy really had to pull the “mad” feelings out of me. I’m a really happy person – so I had to dig deep on this one!

How was the recording and writing process?

I co-wrote this song a few years ago. This was our very first co-write! For the recording of this song, it evolved a lot! I’ve been playing this song for a couple of years with my band and my guitar player before it was recorded and being considered as a single.

What role does Canada play in your writing?

That’s a good question, because it does play a role for me as a musician and as a person. I live in a small town in BC. I live the real country life style here – lots of time spent in the wilderness. In the winter, we’re having a fire and ice fishing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. In the summer, it’s quading to the lake, boating, cabins, camping and more fishing!

I am not just a Country singer, but a real Country gal! That said, writing country music comes from a true place for me. I love writing stories about how I grew up, those summer days in the country or a good ole fashioned date. See, the key word here is “country” – I live, love and breathe this lifestyle!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Definitely! In fact, I am heading to Nashville for an extended amount of time to focus solely on writing another great song.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

I will be coming back from Nashville to Canada in July for the festival season! There’s a definite possibility that my band will be learning some new material for those shows.  Creating new songs is my focus over the next few months, and releasing will be the next phase after that.

Would you be exploring other new and feisty sides of you?

Always! I love trying to reinvent my songs or myself. It’s like a fun game, trying something out that may or may not work. You have to take risks!

Having shared the stage with Keith Urban (watch here) – has there been any talk of working together or that was just a once in a million opportunity?

Well, I talk about it all the time. But again, he doesn’t know the plans I have for us – haha.

In reality, no. It was really a moment I manifested on that day. From the moment I knew I was going to his performance, I started telling people I was going to sing with him.

If an opportunity presents itself, I will grab it!

Any plans to hit the road?

Yes, Sir! I’ve been touring across Canada and am heading to Nashville from there! In May, I will be making a quick trip back to Toronto to perform at Canadian Music Week.

What else is happening next in Lisa Nicole´s world?

I am just really excited for the next six months. Promoting and touring to support “Mad About It” and then heading down to my favourite place, Nashville to immerse myself in honing my craft. I plan to get some horseback riding and lots of Crossfit in while I am on the road and down South, too! Aside from my music I am a really into my health and fitness!
