I’ve been great. A lot of exciting things happening! Thanks for having me!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “No Parachute”?
Yes, it’s been well received & the song means a lot to me! It’s really about those fears & doubts that occupy our minds 24/7 & letting go of all that & instead embracing your authentic self.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Growing up I struggled a lot trying to figure out where I belonged & who I really am. A lot of pain came with that. But “No Parachute” is like the celebration after you’ve figured those things out. I believe belonging is all about finding your people. Your group.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
It was amazing! It was mostly shot green screen so I didn’t know how it was gonna come out until I saw the edit. It represents me & my artistic vision so well and I’m happy I got to collaborate with some great people!
The single comes off your new album The Misfits – what’s the story behind the title?
It’s about not fitting in. Being different, far from the norm or as some would say an outsider. All the songs on the EP are different stories but part of the same point of view. Also “The Misfits” is a lyric in “Lonely Party”. It goes “delightful misfits so mind your business, cuz we’re not waiting on your RSVP”. That was another reason why I felt strongly about the title of the EP. I feel like it summed up that chapter of my life.
How was the recording and writing process?
It was basically me locked in a studio 5 days a week for several months????
What role does Germany play in your music?
I think it definitely comes through in my music. Sometimes I’d be writing lyrics that don’t really make sense in english but they make perfect sense to me ???? LOL. And being from another country and moving all the way here by myself comes with certain struggles that I pour into my songs.
Having travelled around many cosmopolitan cities – how has all these cultures influences you as an artist?
I think it has made me more aware and shaped my point of view. Also because of the work my parents would do, going to different crisis territories & reporting that shaped my perspective.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I feel like a lot of it comes from insecurities and chapters in my life i haven’t been able to close/ things I haven’t been able to get over
Any plans to hit the road?
Yes, its my goal to to travel with my music!
What else is happening next in Aly Ryan’s world?
I’m finishing up my debut album & I have more music coming out soon! I have all these stories to tell that I want the world to finally hear!
